  Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ahead of the Reds pre-season friendly game against Mainz on Friday. Both Van Dijk and Gomez missed almost the whole 2020/2021 season due to injuries, however, they are now back with the group as they are training ahead of the pre-season fixtures. Speaking on whether Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will play against Mainz on Friday, Klopp told LFCTV: "It would be a surprise to be honest. "They look good in training, they did really complex things. They have to get there step-by-step, but I don’t expect them on Friday.”
