Jurgen Klopp held transfer phone call with Timo Werner alternative

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly spoke on the phone to Victor Osimhen, before he moved to Napoli from Lille. The Nigerian sealed a £45million switch to the Serie A outfit on Friday, ending a long-running saga which nearly saw Osimhen snub Napoli after interest from the Premier League. The striker was involved in 31 goals across in board last season for club and country, altering a host of clubs across Europe. He arrived at Lille previous summer from Belgian side Charleroi, however he soon felt at home at the Stade Pierre Mauroy where the fans quickly fell for him. According to L'Equipe Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to the player recently on the phone. The Reds have been on the lookout for another forward to help ease the pressure of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Liverpool CEO Peter Moore, who will leave Anfield at the end of August, is said to have a good connection with Osimhen's new agent which is why there was contact from the Reds. However, the Merseyside player were never going to have huge amount of money to spend even if Klopp wanted to sign Osimhen after their phone call. They were forced to pull out of the running for Timo Werner, who was initially earmarked as their top target.
