Liverpool have identified Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace as a priority target for the number 6 role.
The Reds' quest for a new defensive midfielder has led them to consider Doucoure as their latest target, following an unsuccessful pursuit of other players. The 23-year-old, appeared on the Reds' radar earlier this year when it became likely that Fabinho would be leaving.
Jurgen Klopp's side closely observed Doucoure during his time at Lens before he moved to Palace for £21 million last summer. His impressive performances earned him the title of Palace's Player of the Year in his debut season, featuring in 35 matches. He has already played a full 90 minutes this season during the victory against Sheffield United.
After failing to secure signings like Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, the Mali international is expected to come at a lower cost compared to Caicedo (£115 million) and Lavia (£58 million), although previous estimates placed his value at a minimum of £70 million.
Reports suggest that Doucoure's eventual price could potentially be less than £50 million. Importantly, he seems eager to move to Anfield, and negotiating personal terms is unlikely to be a hurdle.
