Jose Mourinho’s two reasons for wanting to sell Anthony Martial before he was sacked

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wanted to sell Anthony Martial and replace him with Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic, before he was sacked. Ed Woodward stepped in to demand Martial stayed at the club. According to the Times, Mourinho had two major reasons for not wanting to play Martial.
  • Mourinho felt Martial was “mentally weak” for Premier League football.
  • The Portuguese was angered by Martial’s perceived sulking during matches.
Martial joined United in 2015 with a £50million move from Monaco. He scored 17 goals in 49 appearances under Louis van Gaal but only 31 times in the following three years under Mourinho.
