Jose Mourinho says Tottenham will not sign Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes.
Portuguese international has been a long-time transfer target for Spurs. Fernandes was close to join Tottenham last summer, as he wanted a Premier League move. However, Sporting Lisbon midfielder stayed in the club and recently signed a new contract, according to which he will have a £85 m release clause.
Mourinho told Sport TV (via Daily Mail): “We are a different club at this level.”
“We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically.
“I would definitely say no because Bruno (Fernandes) is a player of a level and value that is not for us.”
