Jose Mourinho apologises to Eric Dier for substituting him

Jose Mourinho told BT Sports after the Olympiacos match that he would apologise to Eric Dier for first half substitution.  Spurs were 0-2 down after just 19 minutes. Mourinho quickly reacted to the situation and substituted Dier with Christian Eriksen.  Tottenham eventually produced a comeback to beat Greek side 4-2 due to Harry Kane’s double and goals from Dele Alli and Serge Aurier.  “The first thing I want to say is to do publicly what I did in the dressing room which is to apologise to Eric Dier,” Mourinho said.   “It's never easy for a player but I did it for the team. It was not for Eric playing badly, it was for the team to have different solutions.  “I needed a second man with Dele Alli to come into the pockets, to make a connection and for that I just needed just one midfield player, so it was between Dier and Winks. Before that I thought to bring him to the center of the defence and take away one of the center backs. It was a hard decision, but it's about the team it's not about individuals.  “The most important thing is done, we qualify for the next round. That was hard and they are a good team.“
