John Stones reacts to Aymeric Laporte and Vincent Kompany challenge

Manchester City defender John Stones says it's up to the club's players to perform for the ones that can't. The 25-year-old had to miss the most of the season because of his injury problems and comes to play in defence after Vincent Kompany's quit and Aymeric Laporte' long-term injury. The Blues boss Pep Guardiola had to cope with many injury problem cases and now the return of the England international might bring some freshness and power to the team game. Currently, Stones wants to be a leader at the back, leading the squad to success for the missing players. He told: "We all have to step up as players and fight for our positions, our team-mates. We need to play for the lads that are injured, the likes of Aymer and Leroy [Sane], we need to work hard every day in training and set the standard for everyone. That’s what brought us success last season, how much we trained on things and pushed each other, fighting for positions, we have to take the responsibility as individuals and as a team. It’s been difficult getting injured. It was difficult because it’s me out of the team not being able to be there for the team and be selected for the manager. I’m trying to stay as fit and healthy as i can now and get a run of games when called upon to try and do my best for the team and for myself. I feel good again, I feel fit and I need to stay like this for as long as I can - for the rest of the season hopefully."
