Joao Cancelo hands Pep Guardiola a major boost amid injury issues

Joao Cancelo looks like he could make the impact he failed to last season after his £60m move from Juventus. The enforced halt to the football calendar proved a blessing in disguise for Cancelo though. He became as first-choice left-back in the Champions League knockout stages, ahead of Benjamin Mendy and Aleks Zinchenko. However, an injury picked up on international duty meant he wasn't seen in the opening part of the campaign. But his first appearance hinted at how emphatic the change from the 26-year-old has been. Cancelo baffled for all the right reasons against Arsenal. He was instead used as a floating right wing-back slash defensive midfielder slash right-winger slash whatever did the job. The very fact that he was given such an essential tactical role when he wasn't even trusted to make the Carabao Cup final squad back in March shows how far he has come in such a short space of time in the squad and bodes well as Guardiola looks to make the best of his depleted group, according to MEN. If Cancelo is confident and good enough to carry out what was asked of him on Saturday, he can be an important figure going forward. That is a major boost for Guardiola as he is forced to plan without several key members of the squad.
