Jesse Lingard reacts to Manchester Untied captaincy vs Astana

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has reacted to his wearing the armband during Europa League clash against Astana. The 26-year-old is the oldest member of the squad, that travelled to Kazakhstan for today's match. After the midfielders' difficult months at the club, the Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to give the player much more playing time and more opportunities to show his potential. Speaking on his appointment as a club captain for the Astana fixture, Lingard admitted he has long been targeting a senior role at United. He told MUTV: "It's a massive honour. I said at the start of the season I'd like to be more of a leader type of person, on and off the field. You know, being one of the most senior players in the squad." As this time Solskjaer added more youngsters to the playing squad, Lingard spoke about them as well. "I know them inside out and they train with us, pretty much every day. "You see the talent every day and hopefully they can show it out there. I know we've pretty much qualified but, for the mentality, we know we need to win the game. That's how we're going to prepare for it. I've been around a lot of the youngsters and you've got to lead the way, set an example and be a role model and I'll try to do that," he added.
