The Athletic journalist James Pearce has given his verdict on Rhian Brewster's situation at Liverpool.
The 20-year-old spent the previous half-season on loan at Swansea. He scored 11 goals in 22 games for the Championship side. Since returning to Liverpool, he made 2 appearances during the Reds’ pre-season friendly games and scored 3 goals. Brewster also participated in the Reds Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on August 29.
According to
Sky Sports, Liverpool are considering selling Brewster this transfer window, with the protection of a buy-back clause.
And amid the transfer talks, James Pearce gave his verdict on Brewster's future.
“I wouldn’t chuck him in that category with those other names (Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson, Xherdan Shaqiri). I think his situation is different," he told
The Red Agenda Podcast.
“I think with Brewster they’ve been absolutely inundated with clubs registering interest in taking him on loan. Then it emerged last week that clubs had been informed that Liverpool wouldn’t completely rule out a permanent sale.
“The way I understand it is that Liverpool would be looking for something in the region of £25m. They would only sell Brewster if they can have written into the deal a buy-back clause.”
