Ivan Campo exclusive interview: Former Real Madrid and Bolton player hopes that PL will resume soon

Born in San Sebastián, Basque Country, Ivan Campo started his career at Deportivo Alavés of Segunda División B. In 1998, Campo signed with Real Madrid who played for Los Blancos between 1998 and 2003. The midfielder was a two-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid before making the switch to Bolton FC in 2002. Ivan Campo spoke exclusively to VbetNews and revealed that he still follows Bolton Wanderers F.C. and hope that Premier League will resume soon. How did it feel to play alongside players like Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo?
  • When you play with these fantastic players is a special dream cause they are the best players in Europe or in the world. They are fantastic persons but when they football you think: "Wow they are my teammates and you are training and playing with them.
You won two UEFA Champions Leagues (1999–2000, 2001–02), La Liga (2000–01), Intercontinental Cup in 1998. How did you cope with the pressure of playing for Real Madrid?
  • It's the special moment in your life when you win a tournament like the UEFA Champions League and La Liga. There are more difficulties when you play for Real Madrid because you are under pressure. It's amazing and it's the best situation for an elite athlete.
Ivan Campo celebrates UCL title win in 2000 Image: Twitter   You were expected to return to Real Madrid after spending a season in England, but unexpectedly signed a permanent deal with Bolton Wanderers. What attracted you to come to The Whites?
  • The Premier League is somehow different to other leagues. For me, it is the most prestigious league. The differences would be mostly due to the style of play that they are used to playing and practising (f.e box to box). By the way, I'm in love with the Boxing day matches. Another positive element of the Premier League is an incredible atmosphere at stadiums. Absolutely fantastic.
Ivan Campo celebrating his goal during his time at Bolton Image: SkySports   Do you still follow Bolton, and look out for results?  I have spent six fantastic years at Bolton. I will never forget that. I still follow the club. Bolton 'forever will be' my home. What was your best memory during your time with Bolton? For me, the best memory and the best experience was to play in the Reebook Stadium with my teammates and with my friends. I enjoyed every minute. Do you believe that Liverpool will win Premier League title even if season fails to resume due to coronavirus pandemic? Or the season should be voided? If you want to win, better do it on the field. But for now, the most important thing is to think about our health, our family and friends. And then, when everything will be ok, let's play why not?. Was Real Madrid right to let Cristiano Ronaldo go? I don't know. I think it would be better if you ask Real Madrid president. What can I say? Ronaldo is fantastic player and now he plays for Juventus. Who will be the captain of Real Madrid after Sergio Ramos? Ramos is a great captain. He is well respected. I really hope that he can still play for at least another two or three years
