"It will be his last season" - Guardiola backed to leave Manchester City this term

Former Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes this season will be Pep Guardiola’s last at the Etihad. The Spaniard is taking charge of his fifth campaign with City. Guardiola recently ruled out the possibility of returning to Barcelona. Hamann, who played for City between 2006 and 2009, insists Guardiola should have been sacked after losing to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals last term. Hamann told German outlet Bild: “I can imagine that it will be his last season. It is only due to his name and good reputation that he is still there. Any other coach would have been kicked out after the embarrassing elimination against Lyon in the Champions League last season.” In September, Hamann insisted Man City had peaked under Guardiola. Speaking to talkSPORT, the German said: “The thing with Guardiola is he stays at clubs usually for no more than three years. I remember in Munich the players said after three years they were exhausted because he demands so much from them. I think a Guardiola team peaks after two or three years, maximum. He’s been at City for four years now, so I can’t see them improving this year as much as they have in the last few years.” Man City are 10th in the Premier League after six matches, but have a game in hand on their rivals.
