'If it is possible' - Rafa Benitez makes 'difficult' admission ahead of the winter transfer window

Rafa Benitez hopes to get more opportunity to improve the Everton squad during the January transfer window, after spending less ahead of the current campaign.

As the Toffees are under pressure due to Financial Fair Play regulations, it's not anticipated that the club will spend massively in winter, despite the fact they were able to offload a big earner in James Rodriguez to Al-Rayyan. Speaking with Leon Osman on Everton's official YouTube channel, Benitez admitted it will be tough to do business in January. However, he added that he is hopeful there will be more chances to change the squad in transfer windows.
"We spent the money that we spent. We have the team that we have, the squad that we have. And we did really well [at the start of the season] because everything was right.   "As soon as you have injuries or make mistakes as a manager - tactics or substitutions - something can be wrong. It's just how you react to these things - they are key.   "I think we are finding this balance little by little and maybe by bringing in different kinds of players to be sure that we can keep this consistency and this right mentality.   "I say so many times - I know the city and I know the fans. We know exactly what we want, we are capable to do it right now.   "It's not easy and especially for example, January is a difficult market because there are not too many good players available and then there are too many teams that need players.   "But we will try to change things a little bit if it is possible and I'm sure that in future we will have more chances to do it."
