"I was a candidate": Striker reveals Tottenham were "serious" about signing him

Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst has revealed Tottenham were "serious" about signing him during the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites have completed the loan transfer of Carlos Vinicius from Benfica, considering him Harry Kane's back up at the club. However, Weghorst has also been on Spurs' radar, though the club rejected to pay the transfer fee of €35m (£31.7m) set by the Bundesliga side. And speaking about his failed transfer to North London club, the German striker said: “I can be honest; of course, I knew that there was interest left and right.  “It was serious with Tottenham; I was a candidate. Of course, you are interested in something like that too. It is also a confirmation that I’m on the right track.” “I’m 28 now, and I’d like to win titles. I made that clear here. I hope,” said Weghorst, “that we improve as a team so that we can possibly do more overall. “If one day, I have the feeling that I cannot achieve my goals at VfL, then I will say so. That is currently not the case. The Premier League is still a dream of mine.”
