Huge figure Manchester United have spent on sacking managers since Sir Alex Ferguson's exit

Manchester United have spent a massive £33.2million on sacking managers in the six years since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have all been and gone since Ferguson's golden 26-year stint as manager came to an end in 2013. 2014 – David Moyes
  • Cost the club £5.2million
2016- Louis van Gaal
  • Cost the club £8.4million
2018- Jose Mourinho
  • Cost the club- £19.6million
United rather dryly declared: “Exceptional items for the quarter were £19.6million, relating to compensation to the former manager and certain members of the coaching staff for loss of office.” Portuguese coach Mourinho, who led the club to League Cup and Europa League triumphs, pocketed £15million of that figure. Outgoing senior goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro, opposition scout Ricardo Formosinho, fitness coaches Stefano Rapetti and Carlos Lalin and analyst Giovanni Cera shared the remaining £4.6million. This time around Ed Woodward has praised caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the 'positive impact' he has had since returning to the club.  However, during his call to investors, he refused to answer questions on Solskjaer's long-term prospects.
