How The Netherlands' strongest lineup would look like in Euro 2020

The Netherlands have announced their ultimate squad for the upcoming Euro 2020. Unfortunately, Donny van de Beek will not take part in the tournament due to injury, and head coach Frank de Boer will not call a replacement for him. Besides van de Beek, Virgil van Dijk will also be missing the Euros in order to recover his injury, as well as Jasper Cillessen, who has coronavirus. Steven Bergwijn was also missing from the 26-man squad, as he wasn't called up by de Boer. Despite the absentees, the Netherlands still have a quite a strong squad, which will give them a big chance to deliver their best performance this summer. So ahead of the Euro 2020, let's take a look at how Ons Oranje could line up.

3-4-2-1 formation

This is de Boer's preferred formation and in this case Tim Krul will start in between the sticks, with Matthijs de Ligt, Stefan de Vrij and Daley Blind forming the defence. Owen Wijndal and Denzel Dumfries will team up with Gini Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong in the midfield. Memphis Depay, Steven Berghuis and Luuk de Jong will complete the lineup at the attack.

4-3-3 formation

Another formation that has been used by de Boer recently, in 7-0 win over Gibraltar in the World Cup qualifiers. Marco Bizot will replace Krul in the goal, with Wijndal, Dumfries, Blind and de Ligt in the defence. De Jong, Wijlanldum and Davy Klaassen will form the defence, as Depay, Berghuis and Wout Weghorst team up at the attack.

4-2-3-1 formation

Bizot could start again, with the defence line staying the same as in the previous formation. De Jong and Marten de Roon will team up with Donyell Malen, Wijnaldum and Berghuis in the midfield. Depay will be the centre-forward. The Netherlands are in the Group C, alongside Austria, Ukraine and North Macedonia. Their first game is scheduled on Sunday, June 13, against Ukraine, at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Amsterdam.   Join us on Telegram!/ Follow us on Twitter!
