How Liverpool could line up for 2024-25 season

Liverpool are currently in impressive form, as the Reds are challenging for four titles this season. Jurgen Klopp's side are leading the league table and are currently in the EFL Cup final.

The Reds are also in the FA Cup competition as well as the Europa League round of 16.

During the summer transfer window, the Reds welcomed several high profile names, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szobozslai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, who have become an integral part of the squad. Some of them have become startes following their summer moves.

With such squad depth, the Reds still need to improve in some areas, especially in defence and for the next season, they might target centre-backs as Joel Matip's contract expires at the end of the season.

At the end of the season, Liverpool will say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp, as he has revealed that he will leave the club. Winning a quadruple would be the best way to say end this beautiful story.

Several names have already been linked with a managerial role at the Reds, including Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, and Julian Nagelsmann; however, it remains to be seen who will take over after the German coach.

Depending on who becomes the Reds next head coach, they might bring their best players with them. Liverpool have already done transfers with Brighton as they signed Alexis Mac Alister. If De Zerbi becomes the next maanger, he could link up with the Argentine star once again and bring the best out of him.

De Zerbi could also bring Evan Ferguson with him to add competition to the centre-forward spot.

If Liverpool opts to hire Xabi Alonso as their head coach, who has been doing wonders at Bayer Leverkusen, they could win a chance and welcome several Leverkusen stars. One of the best players currently playing for the team is Alejandro Grimaldo. The left-back could add some spice to the Reds squad and could bring his free-kick techniques to the Premier League side.

Grimaldo can also play as a left midfielder and would bring competition to Andy Robertson.

So as the season is underway and there are 12 gameweeks left in the Premier League, let's see how the Reds could lineup next season under a new coach.

Below, VbetNews takes a look at how Liverpool should line up for the majority of their Premier League and European Cup matches in 2024–25:

How Liverpool should line up for 2024–25

Alisson is the Reds undisputed No. 1 and arguably one of the best players in the league and the world. So far, the Brazilian has made 24 appearances in which he has kept 9 clean sheets. He has been with the Reds since 2018 and is under contract until 2027.

The goalkeeper has always performed at a high level for the Premier League side.

Alisson's current save percentage is 75.32%, and the numbers speak volumes about how good the goalkeeper is.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold is Liverpool's main man at right-back, however, sometimes, the 25-year-old switches roles and plays in midfield. Alexander-Arnold is a versatile player and could play not only at right back but also as central and defensive midfielder.

During the 2023–24 season, Klopp has sometimes used the defender in midfield and has given a chance to youngster Conor Bradley to shine at the right back.

The defender has made 29 overall appearances, in which he has scored 2 goals and provided 10 assists. Alexandre Arnold's contract expires in 2025, and he is currently the Reds main player at right back.

In the upcoming season, it will remain to be seen, whether the new coach will give Bradley a chance to become a starter and use Alexander-Arnold in midfield. But for now, he remains the Reds best option at RB.

CB: Levi Colwill

Levi Colwill is yet to become a Liverpool player. Colwill could become a perfect replacement for Joel Matip, who could leave the club in the summer when his contract expires. The Reds have shown an interest in Colwill during the winter transfer window and could revive it in the summer.

The youngster plays mostly at centre back, but he can also perform as a full back or wing back.

CB: Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has faced criticism and has been branded as arrogant by several pundits, however, Jurgen Klopp has opted to keep the defender and has handed him the captain's armband ahead of the 2023–24 season. He has currently made 28 appearances, in which he has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists.

With the new coach, the Reds might look elsewhere and sign a replacement for Van Dijk, but for now, he remains the first-choice in the position.

LB: Andrew Robertson

The 2023–24 season has not been one of the best for the defender, as he suffered a shoulder injury and has only made 13 appearances. Robertson is still looking to return to his best.

During his absence, Klopp went with Kostas Tsimikas, however, he is not as good as Robertson is.

Since his return, the defender has played in five games so far. He started in two of those games and played the full 90'.

CM: Dominik Szoboszlai

All three midfielders who have become part of the starting XI joined the Reds during the summer transfer window. Szoboszlai has already become a fan favorite. His shots from a distance are stunning. The 23-year-old could possibly become one of the best signings for the Reds.

So far, Szoboszlai has made 28 appearances in which he has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists. Szoboszlai's contract with the club expires in 2028.

DM: Wataru Endo

Endo has become a starter for the Reds in recent games, however, it remains to be seen if he will keep his place at defensive midfield as Liverpool have a huge competition among midfield players. He has impressed everyone with his professionalism and has made a huge impact following his transfer.

The 31-year-old has made 27 appearances in which he has scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist. The 31-year-old joined the Reds in 2027.

CM: Alexis Mac Allister

The Argentine international, who played a key role in his national team's World Cup 2022 campaign and became a champion, has become a key player at Liverpool as well.

He can play various roles in midfield, from central midfield, to defensive midfield. The 25-year-old has a promising future with the Reds.

Mac Allister has so far made 27 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists. The Argentine international's contract also expires in 2028.

RW: Mohamed Salah

Salah is usually one of the best players, not only for Liverpool but also in the Premier League. Even if during the games he doesn't end up with his name on the scoresheet, he manages to influence the game either way.

The Egyptian has just returned to the starting XI, as he was out with an injury that he suffered while on international duty with Egypt for AFCON 2023. The 31-year-old has made 28 overall appearances in which he has scored 19 goals and provided 10 assists. He was linked with a move away during the summer transfer window, however, the Reds made the right decision and didn't sell their star. Salah's contract expires in 2025.

CF: Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez faces criticism as well from the fans and people outside of Liverpool, however, he had an impressive season during last year's campaign.

Nunez stands out with his ability to create his own chances, however, he has been criticised for his finishing skills.

The partnership with Salah is proving to be productive for Liverpool, and the 24-year-old has sealed his spot as first-choice centre-forward at Liverpool.

Although, the Reds are currently in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe, this could pose a threat to Nunez's role at CF. Nevertheless, Mbappe's move to Premier League side is still a rumour and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will sign the French superstar.

So far he has scored 13 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances. His contract is until 2028.

LF: Luis Diaz

The 27-year-old joined Liverpool in the winter transfer window of 2022 and has a contract until 2027. Diaz has only scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 33 appearances.

Diaz is a true winger in every sense—he is incredibly skilled and quick, and he poses a nightmare for any defender tasked with marking him.
