How Chelsea's homegrown squad numbers look and how it could affect Frank Lampard's transfers
Chelsea set to sign several players during the summer transfer window. It would be the biggest one for Frank Lampard, who was unable to register any new signings since his appointment as the Blues boss. First, it was FIFA's transfer ban in the summer transfer window. While during the January transfer window, Lampard didn't find someone who could have been fit to the squad. Chelsea would be in a position to capitalise should Roman Abramovich give a nod of approval but no one outside of his inner circle can be sure of either the market or the owner's intentions. Moreover, there is a sense that the club remains fully committed to its trust in homegrown talent.Current rules command that squads must contain eight homegrown players on their A list, meaning a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players. For a player to count as homegrown, he must have been registered at an English club for three entire seasons prior to his 21st birthday. However, Chelsea have four non-homegrown players out of contract on June 30 - Willian, Olivier Giroud, Pedro Rodriguez and Willy Caballero - and there remains no guarantee that they will extend their stays at Stamford Bridge. That could possibly mean that there is plenty of potentials to strengthen should the club decide whenever the next window opens.Source: Football.london
