Rio Ferdinand has shared his praise for Robert Sanchez, claiming Brighton goalkeeper “did well to bring Callum Wilson down” and prevent “prevented a goalscoring opportunity”.
The Seagulls’ man was sent off in the 90+2 minute of the 1 – 1 draw with Newcastle for tripping Wilson and denying him a goalscoring opportunity.
“It was quite a surprise it wasn’t blown up. Especially how Callum Wilson reacts. But he goes past him and there is obviously a connection,” BT Sport pundit Steve Sidwell said when speaking about the decision.
“As he said in his interview, it just sums the luck of Newcastle and his performance of the season up. It’s a clear break, he wants to score and he gets pulled back.”
Ferdinand added: “I thought it was quite a wise decision for him to come out. I think initially I thought he should have probably stayed but once he made the decision I think he did well to bring him down and stop the goal-scoring opportunity.”
