What happened last time four ENGLISH teams made Champions League quarter-finals

It is the first time since 2009 that four English clubs have reached the last eight. Manchester United are joined by Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were English teams to qualify in 2009. Goals from Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo against Porto sent Manchester United through the semis(3:2 agg.). Arsenal comfortably saw off Villareal(4-1 agg.). Chelsea meanwhile, beat Liverpool 7-5 on aggregate. Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 5-1 over two legs in the remaining quarter-final. Chelsea were knocked out by Barcelona after a highly controversial performance by referee Tom Henning Ovrebo, while Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Manchester United in the second leg of the semi-finals was the club’s first defeat at the Emirates Stadium in a European Competition. In the 2009 Champions League final Barcelona won the match 2-0 against Manchester United, with goals from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi.
