Granit Xhaka had to be substituted during Switzerland’s Euro 2020 qualifier with Denmark on Tuesday night.
The Gunners midfielder was replaced 10 minutes from time in his country's remarkable 3-3 draw with Denmark, a match which the Swiss were leading 3-0 at the time of his substitution.
Following the game, Switzerland head coach
Vladimir Petkovic was inevitably asked why he chose to substitute Xhaka, who had been his side's stand out player, and he revealed the Gunners midfielder had complained of an injury.
"Xhaka could not stay on the pitch," Petkovic said. "He asked me ten minutes before to be replaced.
"Granit had adductor problems, he could not do any more."
The player himself, however, appears to have eased fears over any problem with a social media post soon after Switzerland's draw on Tuesday.
In a message to fans, the 26-year-old said: "We wanted the win, we didn’t get it but we are still in a strong position. Now back to Arsenal. We have aims we need to reach together."
Given the wording of his post, there did not seem to be any hint from Xhaka about potentially having to sit out any games during the run-in, which will be a relief to those back at the Emirates.
