Giorgio Chiellini becomes another player to back Chelsea midfielder Jorginho to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or after a year in which he won the Champions League and European Championship.

The Juventus captain was speaking ahead of the Blues’ clash with in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Thomas Tuchel looks to defend the title he won in May.

Chiellini thinks his “good friend” Jorginho deserves the honour for his ability to slot so seamlessly into any side he is a part of.

“Well I truly hope that he will be able to win it,” the legendary centre-back said.

“He is a good friend of mine. It is also an award that I feel is mine being an Italian and as a player that was involved in a win and in emotions that will always be in our hearts.

“I’ve always thought Jorginho is a good player well after two or three training sessions in the national team, two or three years ago.

“I realised how good he is and what a top player he really is because he maybe doesn’t have great physical qualities but the real difference lies in his head and in his mentality.

“I was really happy because many people said he would play with Sarri instead other coaches arrived and he played in the Italian national team.

“Wherever he goes, he plays as a regular player so I’m really very happy for him and he truly deserves to win the award and I hope he wins the Ballon d’Or.”
