Georginio Wijnaldum on his key role in signing Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum says Jurgen Klopp has been asking him about Virgil van Dijk even before his move to the Merseyside club from Newcastle back in 2016. Netherlands international played his role in signing his teammate from Netherlands national team, who, since joining Liverpool has become one of the best players in the world and surely, the best center back right now. The proof is the UEFA player of the season award and massive chances of beating Lionel Messi in the race for the Ballon d'Or. “Before I even joined Liverpool I had a meeting with Jurgen and during our talks he asked me about Virgil van Dijk,” Wijnaldum said. “I had always rated Virgil very highly and my exact words to Jurgen were, ‘He is going to make the defence a lot better’. “So I was not surprised when Virgil won the UEFA Best Player award ahead of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
