Gareth Southgate singles out three England stars for praise after San Marino victory

Gareth Southgate has singled out three England players for praise, following the national team's victory over San Marino last night.

The Three Lions celebrated a 5 - 0 win over the rivals, with James Ward-Prowse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Raheem Sterling and Ollie Watkins scoring the winning goals for their side. Southgate was impressed by his team's performance and singled out Jesse Lingard, Kalvin Phillips and Mason Mount for their contribution. "I think we did as well as we could, really," he told ITV. "I was really pleased with not only the way we moved the ball quickly and the interchange of positions but the way we pressed when we lost the ball highlighted the mentality of the team for the full 90 minutes. "So of course, it’s an opponent we should beat but I thought they went about the job really well." When asked who impressed him the most, Southgate replied: "I thought there were lots of good individual performances, we said that there was high individual motivation as well as the team and it’ll be difficult to pick one out. "I thought midfield players moved the ball really well, Kalvin Phillips, I was really pleased for him, he’s used the ball well but his athleticism around the pitch was good.  "Mason in the first half, excellent, I thought set the tone. Good to see Jesse looking like he’s enjoying his football again. So I thought there were a lot of good things."
