Rather more of a Cheltenham specialist, but he’s won here before in similar conditions. The handicapper refuses to give him an inch, yet he’s still a player on his best form and often goes well fresh.
3.00 Newbury – THYME HILL
Odds: 9/2
Looks one of the races of the season so far, but he’s a great price to enhance an already blossoming reputation. Seriously caught the eye with a staying-on fourth in the Albert Bartlett and has winning form at the track. He’s an outstanding prospect within the staying division.
3.35 Newbury – COEUR DE LION
Odds: 10/1
Hill Sixteen looks a worthy nemesis, but the selection will be plenty fit enough from his Royal Ascot-winning exploits on the Flat. Probably needs a career-best over timber, but this is an intriguing step up in trip and he’s pretty well weighted.
