Frank Lampard wanted Chelsea to sell five players to fund Declan Rice signing

Ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was willing to sell up to five players to fund money for Declan Rice signing. The West Ham centre-back, who started his career at Chelsea, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Lampard was so desperate to sign the £80 that he asked the club to sell five players to make a move for Rice, according to The Telegraph. Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Kepa Arrizabalaga are reported to be among the players. However, the 42-year-old desire wasn't fulfilled. Moreover, he was sacked from his job on Monday after clashing with the club's hierarchy. The Telegraph adds, that now Chelsea board are not planning to make a bid for Rice. The Stamford Bridge club believes incoming manager Thomas Tuchel has enough midfielders available. Reasonably to mention, that Lampard has always been backed by Roman Abramovich during his 18-month tenure as Chelsea boss. While during the first transfer window as the Blues manager, Lampard was hit by the transfer ban and on January transfer window he decided against new signing, he did spend big during the last summer transfer window. Chelsea spent £228.7million, as the club brought in Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and German duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in what was a major squad overhaul. However, they faced a horror-run.
