Although Chelsea's activity in the January transfer window was relatively subdued compared to their usual standards, Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly planning a significant clear-out to facilitate signings in the summer. With the club facing Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints following substantial spending under owner Todd Boehly, there's a need to balance the books.
Despite reaching the League Cup final this season, Chelsea's performance in the Premier League has left much to be desired, exemplified by their recent 4-1 defeat to Liverpool. To address these issues, Pochettino is looking to offload experienced defender Thiago Silva, whose contract expires in the summer, alongside several homegrown players.
Reports from The Atheltic (via Express) suggest that Chelsea are open to releasing Silva and selling four homegrown players, including Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, and Trevoh Chalobah.
Gallagher, in particular, attracted interest from Tottenham last month, but contractual factors might force Chelsea's hand in selling him in the summer.
Maatsen has already secured a loan move to Borussia Dortmund with a buyout option, while Broja joined Fulham on loan in the January window. Chalobah's potential departure has been hindered by fitness concerns but is expected to leave at the end of the season.
These sales are crucial for Chelsea to pursue their targets, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen rumored to be one of their primary interests, given his £103m release clause.
