FIFA have distributed several awards to the best persons in world football in 2016. The footballing body have published the final results of the voting with exact numbers of votes received for each nominee.
Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned as the best player in the world, surpassing Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. He has received 34.54% of total votes, while his main rival Lionel Messi finished the second with 26.42% share of votes.
Claudio Ranieri was the top man in coaches’ race, as the Leicester manager won the prize for the best coach of the year with 22.06% of total votes. Zinedine Zidane surpassed Fernando Santos with a slight advantage to come after Ranieri.
The most evident choice was made in the Puskas Award winner selection. Mohd Faiz Subri from Malaysia received almost 60% of the votes to win the prestigious prize thanks to his banana style free kick golazo in Malaysian Super League.
Finally, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool fans won the fan award as their joined singing of the world famous song “You’ll never walk alone” led the race and surpassed Iceland and ADO Den Haag fans’ performances.
Prizes in women’s football went to the USA’s Carli Lloyd as the best female player and to Germany coach Silvia Neid as the best coach. Also, futsal legend Falcao was given an award for incredible sporting career and achievements in sports.
Fair Play award was given to Club Atletico Nacional with a unanimous decision for their act of respect to the Brazilian club Chapecoense.
