Fernando Torres believes Chelsea will be close to the Premier League title this season, but isn’t sure that they will be able to keep the pace with rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Blues have started the 2020/21 campaign with a 3 – 1 win over Brighton, while expectations are high from the club after extremely active transfer window. Frank Lampard’s side have brought a number of top-class players, including Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chiwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.
And Torres, who was part of Chelsea’s Champions League triumph back in 2012, has shared his thoughs on the club’s recent squad and their chances to win the Premier League title this term.
Speaking to talkSPORT, former Blues striker said: “I think they are building a fantastic team, not just for this season but for the future because they are building a very interesting squad but they are very young.
“You can see that Frank can manage a young squad he did last season in a brilliant way. I’m sure they are going to be close [in the title race this season]. I don’t know if they are ready to compete against Liverpool or Man City, but they will be close.”
