Portugal manager Fernando Santos has provided an update on Liverpool’s Diogo Jota. Jota missed the friendly game against Qatar due to a reported muscular issue and has been absent from full training.
Santos’s side will face Luxembourg in the World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday, October 12.
“He trained a while ago, increased the intensity today with [physio] Joao Brito, but he didn’t train with us,’ said Santos in his pre-match press conference.
“The probability [that he will play] will be little. I’ll talk to him, see how he feels.
“If we see that he has any conditions to be on the bench and then come in, that’s fine.
“If we don’t, we won’t take the risk with a player who hasn’t been able to train with us for a long time.
“I’ll make the decision shortly, and if he can’t play, he’ll head to Liverpool.”
The Reds will face Watford in an away Premier League game on Saturday, October 16.
