Fernando Alonso keeping ‘possibilities open’ over possible F1 return

Fernando Alonso says he is keeping all possibilities open regarding a possible return to F1 in 2021. Alonso quit F1 at the end of 2018 following an uncompetitive second stint at McLaren. He is set to continue in his ques to win the Indianapolis 500 after a second failed attempt earlier this year. “[The regulation changes] in 2021, I think that’s the reason why I keep open possibilities, because maybe things mix a little bit with the new rules,” Alonso told Sky. “So let’s see next year what opportunity comes.” Asked if he would have liked to have raced this year given McLaren’s competitiveness, Alonso replied: “Not really. We all - not predicted, but we all hoped that things could change this year. “McLaren, it was, it is and it will be always a top team in Formula 1, and I think, sooner or later, these big results will come. Luckily enough it came this year. “[Brazil] was a strange race, it was not pure pace position, but hopefully next year is another step in the right direction.” Source- Crash.net
