Fabrizio Romano Ehas expressed doubts about Manchester United's pursuit of Fulham's Joao Palhinha in the upcoming January transfer window.
In an exclusive column for CaughtOffside, the Italian transfer expert has cast some skepticism on the reports linking the Red Devils' with the midfielder.
Romano argues that United's recent acquisition of another defensive midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat, raises doubts about the need for another similar signing.
Furthermore, the journalist appears more confident in Bayern Munich's potential interest in the Portuguese ace, especially considering they came close to securing his signature on Deadline Day this summer.
While Palhinha has certainly made a positive impression during his time in the Premier League with the Cottagers, the expert questions whether there is a viable spot for him in Erik ten Hag's squad as the Manchester giants already boast options like Casemiro, Amrabat, and Scott McTominay, making it a crowded field in midfield.
“As I previously reported, Bayern Munich came very close to signing Joao Palhinha this summer, only for the deal to fall through late on as Fulham couldn’t find a replacement, and now there’s been further speculation about the Portuguese midfielder’s future,” Romano said.
“I’m aware that Manchester United have been linked as suitors for Palhinha when the transfer window opens again in January, but I’m not a fan of commenting on rumours about something that is still four months away. Nothing is going on now, and also Man United just spent money on another defensive midfielder with the Sofyan Amrabat deal.
“I think Bayern will try again for Palhinha but again, it’s too early to say for sure, January is far.”
