Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing to bring back defender Matt Doherty on a free transfer, following a challenging three-year stint at Tottenham.
The Irishman, who had a decade-long stint at Wolves from 2010 to 2020, is on the verge of rejoining the club.
He enjoyed a successful tenure at Molineux, earning a place in the hearts of the fans and arguably producing the best performances of his career during that period.
However, the defender's time at the London club was fraught with inconsistency and limited playing time, both for his club and the national team, Ireland.
Doherty struggled to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup and failed to find a solid rhythm. The frequent managerial changes at Spurs did not aid his cause either, and when Antonio Conte took charge, the player was unceremoniously shown the exit door in a harsh manner.
Now according to Fabrizio Romano, the clubs are on the verge of finalizing the 31-year-old's transfer to the Midlands.
