EXCLUSIVE: Youri Djorkaeff on 1998 scandal: If there was a VAR back then, it would have been under the control of Juventus

Inter Milan and France national team legend Youri Djorkaeff has spoken out on his time at Inter Milan and latest rumours on Henrikh Mkhitaryan possible move to Nerazzurri. In an exclusive interview with Vnews.am, World Cup 1998 champion said that Nerazzurri are on their way of recovery, as they were in searches of good management after the departure of Massimo Moratti. I think Inter don’t have problems with the squad. The main thing is with the management. You see Tohir came after Moratti, and then sold the club to Chinese owners. Inter are now in searches of good management, as the league becomes more competitive. Now every European top club wants to be successful and win major trophies. As Italian league is not as strong, as several years ago, they need to recover everything (in order to be successful) and they are on the way of it.” Djorkaeff said. Former Inter man was part of the great squad under Luigi Simoni, that won UEFA Cup in 1998. Ronaldo, Zamorano, Zannetti…. They were so close to win Serie A title, but they witnessed one of the most controversial matches in the history, when referee Ceccarini made several massive mistakes, that prevented Nerazzurri to beat Bianconeri. On Juventus match in 1998 and if Inter would’ve become Serie A champions, if there was a VAR system. “Little scandal, yes (smiling). Indeed. You know, the thing is that if there was a VAR back then, it would have been under the control of Juventus. But we would’ve become champions, if there was a fairness.” he added. Inter has been linked with a possible move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Arsenal. Djorkaeff says now Armenian international sees his future at North London club and loves his current club. He told me he wanted to play under Arsene Wenger. Interesting, that he moved to Arsenal, and thereafter Wenger left the club. But he sees himself at Arsenal. It is his club, he loves them and wants to play there for several years.
