Former Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia has revealed the club asked him about Massimiliano Allegri back in 2016.  Despite winning the Premier League with Jose Mourinho in 2015, Chelsea’s 2015/16 campaign was the one that fans don’t want to remember.  Mourinho was sacked because of the poor results, while Guus Hiddink took charge of the club until the end of the season.  Amelia, who was in Chelsea in 2016, didn’t play for the West London side. But club representatives asked him about Allegri before signing a contract with Antonio Conte.   Amelia said (via Sport Witness) “For me, these days, he is one of the greatest managers around. The Chelsea board asked me about him before they took Antonio Conte, so I thought they would go over to him. It seemed to me they really wanted to get him. Then they went to Conte and won the Premier League. Even Allegri could win the Premier League with his eyes closed”. Antonio Conte worked in Chelsea for two seasons before being replaced by another Italian coach Maurizio Sarri.  Massimiliano Allegri is currently without a job after leaving Juventus in 2019. He has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham.
