ESPN: Liverpool preparing move for Tottenham target as cover for Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Tottenham target Milan Skriniar as cover for Virgil van Dijk. Reds' defender is expected to be out of action for a long term due to the serious injury he picked up during the Merseyside Derby with Everton. The club have currently leaned on the young prospects with the likes of Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams. However, according to ESPN, Jurgen Klopp's side are preparing a deal for a more experienced defensive option, Skriniar from Intern Milan. The 25-year-old has found his playing time limited with Antonio Conte's team, making just two appearances so far this season. He has been heavily linked with the move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, while Spurs haven't yet cooled down their interest in the defender, despite signing Joe Rodon from Swansea. Skriniar is currently valued at €60million (£54m), though the transfer fee could have some changes if Conte does not restore the Slovakian to the team.
