Erling Haaland's Man City exit plan revealed amidst Pep Guardiola's possible departure hint

In just over 18 months, Erling Haaland has left an indelible mark at Manchester City. The former Borussia Dortmund striker's arrival heralded a remarkable era, marked by a stunning tally of 52 goals in 53 games during his inaugural season at the Etihad.

Haaland played a key role as City clinched the elusive Champions League title, completing a historic treble. Despite the Norwegian star's sensational performances, speculation looms over his long-term commitment to Manchester City.

Comments from his father, former midfielder Alf-Inge, featured in the documentary 'Haaland: The Big Decision,' hint at a potential departure. Haaland senior suggested that his son may only stay with the Premier League champions for "three or four years at the most," amidst swirling rumors linking him to Real Madrid.

Moreover, the 23-year-old's team perceives the FIFA snub as a deciding moment. The award being bestowed upon Lionel Messi has triggered a realization for Haaland, they reveal. Consequently, the Norway international resolve is resolute as he aims to join Los Blancos to pursue personal accolades and international acknowledgment, as Diario AS reported.

"I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?"

Last year, reports surfaced indicating the cancellation of Erling's £150 million release clause, initially set to activate the following summer. This clause was closely tied to the future of Pep Guardiola, who extended his contract until 2025 shortly after the player's arrival.

However, recent developments suggest uncertainty regarding the Spanish boss' tenure at City. Despite teasing the possibility of a new contract just days prior, the 53-year-old manager hinted this week that his future with the club beyond next year remains uncertain.

When pressed about his future plans during Wednesday's interview, Pep remained evasive about signing another extension.

"We have to see how players’ behaviour is, whether we are keeping our standards. Next year will be nine seasons, which is a lot of time. Extending after two years is not the same as extending after nine. We have a lot of time [to decide]. But now I feel really good."
