Manchester City faced Manchester United in the Premier League at Etihad as club football returned to action following the international break.
City celebrated a 6-3 victory as Phil Foden and Erling Haaland scored hat-tricks, while Antony and Anthony Martial (double) got their names on the scoresheet for the Red Devils.
Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench as the Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat.
This season, Ronaldo has made just 8 appearances overall for United in which he ahs scored just one goal.
Following the game, ten Hag was asked about Ronaldo.
"I wouldn’t bring him in out of respect for Cristiano, for his big career," said ten Hag.
"And the other thing is there was the advantage I could bring Anthony Martial, he needs the minutes but I don’t want to point it out like that."
