England head coach Gareth Southgate has spoken out on James Maddison after his casino visit and insisted he knows “pretty much everything” about his players.
Leicester City player was photographed in a casino on Friday when England lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic in Euro 2020 qualifier. He was out of the squad due to illness.
“Once a player has been released from the squad, then it’s up to them how they spend their individual time,” said Southgate.
“I guess what James has learned is that if you have an involvement with England, then there’s an increased spotlight on you and increased interest in your personal and private life as well.
“I don’t really want to discuss individuals but I know pretty much everything about all of my players.”
The 22-year-old attacking midfield scored three goals and assisted twice for Leicester, and is yet to make his England debut. Maddison also withdrew from the England squad for their next trip to Bulgaria on Monday.
