Three potential outcomes to Manchester City CAS appeal on UEFA ban

Court of Arbitration for Sport general secretary Matthieu Reeb has confirmed that Manchester City’s appeal against their UEFA ban began over video conference on Monday. City are appealing UEFA’s decision to issue a two-year ban from European competitions and a fine them around £25m, for ‘serious breaches’ of Financial Fair Play regulations. The hearing is closed to the public and media and will take place from Monday, June 8 until June 10. According to AFP, Reeb confirmed that the hearing has begun. “The hearing has started well and the video conference is working well,” Reeb is quoted as saying. AFP also claim Reeb added that a verdict could be announced in July. Here, we look at the possible outcomes of the appeal: The worst-case scenario for City would be that CAS agree with UEFA that there were 'serious breaches' of FFP regulations and that City's ban and fine stands. UEFA sanctions could be reduced and this would be a verdict that would probably please neither party and both parties at the same time. City would still have been found guilty, but their punishment would have been reduced. And the third option is that City could win the appeal. This is the outcome City are obviously hopeful of, but just as they would appeal if UEFA won, there is the chance of UEFA appealing at the Swiss Federal Courts. Source: MEN
