Three players out, Nkunku in: How Chelsea could lineup against Newcastle United in EFL Cup

Chelsea will be in action for their next game against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino could consider making three changes to the starting lineup that secured Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.

With two games in quick succession, veteran defender Thiago Silva, who played the full 90 minutes against Sheffield United, may be rested. Despite being a key figure in Pochettino's defense, the manager could opt to rotate Silva, especially with additional defensive options available.

Despite scoring against Sheffield United, Nicolas Jackson might be replaced by Armando Broja in the starting lineup. Broja, returning from a long-term ACL injury, could be given an opportunity to impress, providing competition for Christopher Nkunku, who is set to make his debut against Newcastle.

Enzo Fernandez may return to the midfield trio alongside Conor Gallagher and Moises Caicedo to face a stronger Newcastle side. This could result in one of the forwards, such as Mykhaylo Mudryk, Cole Palmer, or Raheem Sterling, missing out.

While Palmer has been a key player in Chelsea's attack, Pochettino might opt for Sterling to utilize his experience against the rested Kieran Trippier, with Mudryk potentially making an impact off the bench against tired Newcastle legs.

Chelsea's predicted XI vs Newcastle United: Petrovic; Gusto, Disasi, Badiashile, Colwill; Gallagher, Caicedo, Fernandez; Palmer, Broja, Sterling.
