Liverpool could now focus on Stefan Bajcetic's improvement at the squad instead of signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton at a high price, The Times suggests.
The Redes have been engaged in prolonged negotiations for the potential signing of Lavia. Personal terms with the player have been agreed upon, and bids have been submitted. However, the deal is not yet confirmed, as Southampton are holding firm on their £50m valuation of the player.
Liverpool are hesitant about paying such a hefty fee due to the presence of Bajcetic in their squad.
The young Spaniard impressed last season when he filled in after the World Cup, and despite an injury ending his campaign prematurely, the Reds' have high hopes for his future.
The concern is that spending £50m on Lavia might lead him to be second in the pecking order if Bajcetic continues to develop and perform well.
