‘The right decision’: Wolves player breaks silence on the real reason why he left Molineux this summer

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers prospect Christian Marques has shed light on his recent decision to part ways with the club.

The young defender made a permanent move to Swiss side Yverdon Sport, a decision that may have surprised some in the football community.

Marques, once regarded as one of the brightest talents at Molineux, arrived at Wolves in January 2019 and left a lasting impression in the club's academy, notably playing a role similar to that of captain, Conor Coady.

However, despite early promise, the youngster never had the opportunity to make his mark with the Wolves' first team. He embarked on loan spells at Belenenses and later at Forest Green Rovers, where, unfortunately, injury-marred his stint in League One.

Now, with a fresh start at a new club, the Portugal youth international has candidly shared his thoughts on leaving the Midlands outfit while speaking to the Express & Star.

“I think I’ve made the right decision. I can’t say I planned it, but in my head I knew what I wanted to do this year and in the next few years of my career. Last season I saw a lot of players here go to Germany and France, so that’s one of my main goals.

“I’m trying to play as much as I can here for one, two or three years and then make the next step again.”
