After Chelsea’s Champions League exit, it was revealed that some of its freshest signings will experience a cut in their salaries due to contractual clauses.
Primarily, this will concern the 12 players that have joined the Blues under the new ownership of Tedd Beohly and ClearLake Capital and seven others who have renewed their contracts.
The newcomers have a wage reduction clause in their contracts that will ensure a salary cut after the painful exit from Champions League. Yet, while this constitutes around 30% decrease, the percentage can reach 50, if the club fails to qualify for Europe as well.
Some aspects of the wage scheme are still unclear, but one thing is for sure - the deals made in the Roman Abramovich era will stay untouched.
