Manchester United were beaten 2-0 at Old Trafford by Burnley and club legend Paul Scholes announced it increases the Red Devil’s chances of landing top transfer target Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United have made a fresh bid of £46.7m for Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
The negotiations ongoing over the final fee they will play for the 25-year-old.
However, the Red Devils are very keen to secure a move.
Should it be accepted, United’s latest offer includes the promise of up to a further €10m in add-ons should Fernandes reach certain targets during his time at Old Trafford.
But which shirt number could the Portuguese ace take if he arrives from Sporting Lisbon?
Fernandes currently wears
No 8 shirt at Sporting since his move from Sampdoria in 2017, however, the number occupied by Juan Mata.
A more likely option is
No 16 of Marcos Rojo, who is set to leave the club this month. Fernandes has worn
No16 for Portugal in four of the past five seasons, briefly switching to 11 last season.
The most likely number available for Fernandes would be the
No 7, left vacant since Alexis Sanchez’s loan move to Inter Milan.
Number 11 is also vacant after Anthony Martial’s switched to
No 9.
Others to consider include
No 12, No 18, No 19, No 25, No 27 and
No 30.
