Ronaldo is doing astonishingly well a week after United announced their mutual parting agreement 15 months after re-joining the club.
The midfielder had secured a spot in the last 16 of the World Cup for Portugal.
After being taken off the game, Ronaldo supposedly texted Piers Morgan telling him that he deserved to be credited for scoring the Portugal goal. "The breaking news is the Cristiano Ronaldo did not score despite his claims that it did touch him," the ex-USMNT captain went on to state on Fox Soccer. "I was just with Piers Morgan and he said that Cristiano texted him from the locker room saying that he believes that it touched his head. So, uhm, who knows." Although the 37-year-old tried to flick the cross home, replays proved he did not touch the ball.
Morgan tweeted: "Ronaldo confirmed to me that his head touched the ball. Even Bruno agrees."
Bruno Fernandes admits that the name of the person who scored is not important as Portugal has used up all the convenient winners over their South American opponents. Santos' players will top Group G if they score even a point higher than South Korea.
