Chelsea have shown great admiration for Southampton's young talent Romeo Lavia and might have an advantage in securing his transfer this summer.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Saints from Manchester City last year, has made a significant impact and is expected to secure a big move following his side's relegation from the Premier League.
Therefore, Fabrizio Romano has mentioned the Blues' interest in the talented youngster, emphasizing that the Londoner's co-director of Recruitment and talent Joe Shields, who has worked with Lavia at both City's academy and Southampton, could play a crucial role in enticing the Belgian teenager to join Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, the Italian transfer expert stated:
“Romeo Lavia is a player Chelsea love. Chelsea have Joe Shields at the club, who is the director who signed Romeo Lavia for Manchester City’s Academy and then signed Romeo Lavia at Southampton."
“He’s the man who has built the career of Romeo Lavia, so it’s normal to have this kind of link. They are pursuing the player but it’s not the only option.”
