Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has received an opportunity to return to European football and the Premier League from Saudi Arabia. A report from El Nacional suggests that Newcastle United have extended an offer for him to join them in 2024.
Ronaldo's departure from Manchester United occurred in November 2022 due to irreconcilable differences with manager Erik ten Hag, and he subsequently joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in January 2023 after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Despite being 38 years old, he has delivered impressive performances in the Saudi Pro League, scoring 24 goals in 24 appearances since his arrival. This has garnered the attention of Al-Nassr's owners, who have proposed a return to Europe for Ronaldo with Newcastle, a club also owned by the same individuals. While the Portuguese star has not yet shown strong interest in this idea, he is likely to contemplate it in the coming weeks.
Newcastle are looking to strengthen their squad with notable additions after significant spending on Sandro Tonali during the summer. Their 4-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League has boosted their confidence.
Despite his dominance in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo seeks tougher competition and a return to Europe. Although he seemed set on concluding his career in Saudi Arabia after leaving Manchester United, he continues to be selected for the Portuguese national team.
Notably, Ronaldo had a memorable performance against Newcastle United on his second debut for Manchester United in 2021. A move to Newcastle United may not be confirmed yet for Ronaldo, but it remains a situation worth considering. Given his intense competitiveness, the Portuguese star might decide to make a return to England in January, ahead of the upcoming European Championships in the summer.
