Pundit slams club for selling player to Arsenal in 2023

Analyst Janusz Michallik has raised doubts about Chelsea's choice to offload Jorginho to Arsenal during the January 2023 transfer window.

At the time of the transfer, many believed the Blues were getting the upper hand in the deal, especially with Arsenal's pursuit of the Premier League title.

The Gunners' interest in Jorginho came amidst their ambitious push for the Premier League title, leading many to question Chelsea's decision to part ways with the midfielder.

Despite the Italy international's struggles at Stamford Bridge in the preceding months, the move to North London has proven to be a masterstroke by Mikel Arteta and Edu.

The midfielders' impact at Emirates Stadium has been significant, with the Italian rarely failing to deliver whenever he's been on the field. His recent standout performance was pivotal as Arsenal secured a crucial victory in the title race over the weekend.

In contrast, Mauricio Pochettino's team has been less than ideal, with the club seemingly regressing. Michallik, speaking on ESPN, has suggested that the West Londoners might have been better served by retaining the services of the 32-year-old midfielder.

“I look at that midfield and I look at Jorginho, look at Jorginho. Even a game or two, again hindsight, but do we not think that maybe you should’ve kept him? Just like Arsenal, he doesn’t play a lot. But when he does, we saw what he did against Liverpool. Just that experience or being on the pitch, or being in the dressing room,” he said.
