Pundit explains the reason behind Arsenal's sudden collapse

After Arsenal's hopes of winning the Premier League title were dashed with a defeat at Nottingham Forest, Gary Neville pointed to the team's mentality as the cause behind their recent collapse.

Despite having a firm leading spot for a significant portion of the season, a series of disappointing results, accumulating just nine points in seven games, jeopardized Arsenal's aspirations. The Gunners' unexpected performance throughout the season has raised questions about the reasons behind their sudden decline.

The Sky Sports pundit, attributed the Gunners' downfall to mental fragility, highlighting their previous struggles at the end of the 2021/22 season when they narrowly missed out on fourth place to Tottenham.

"When you look at the context of how poor a run in it is for Arsenal, we know last season they had the top four in their grasp and went on a really bad run towards the end of the season," he said on Monday Night Football. "I looked this morning at this graphic, this shows Arsenal have the lowest collection of points of any team in Premier League history in the last ten games that they have finished in the top three," concluded the commentator.

According to the 48-year-old, Mikel Arteta needs to address the team's mentality and experience in the final stages of the season. In the past two seasons, the Gunners have struggled to cope during the crucial last ten games, and this has cost them valuable opportunities. Neville suggests that if Arsenal had performed better during those periods, they could have secured Champions League qualification last season and potentially even contended for the title this time.
